The Orquesta Filarmónica Argentina was born in 2008 as Orquesta Lírica de Buenos Aires; under that name it performed in Buenos Aires, Córdoba and La Pampa. Its name’s and profile’s change now allows it to be the leading private orchestra in South America. Made by the best players in the country, including soloists from Buenos Aires’ three great orchestras, it is the ideal instrument for performances, recordings and tours at the highest international level.
Its symphonic repertoire includes Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Dvorák, Haydn, Mendelssohn and Mozart’s main symphonies and solo concertos by the same composers. In the symphonic-choral field, it plays the great vocal works by Fauré, Rossini, Schubert, Verdi and Orff. In its chamber version it also presents Bach, Händel, Pergolesi and Vivaldi.
The Orchestra combines its leading role on stage with the work in the pit accompanying operas, ballets and staged oratorios. Its experience in this area includes new productions of “Il barbiere di Siviglia” and “Il signor Bruschino” by Rossini, “Don Pasquale” and “L’elisir d’amore” by Donizetti, “La traviata” and “Rigoletto” by Verdi.
The orchestral repertoire offers wonderful opportunities to bring young audiences closer to the music of great composers. In addition to our own and exclusive educational programmes, we also offer the major classics of the genre: Prokofiev’s “Peter and the wolf”, Poulenc’s “The story of Babar, the little elephant” and
Saint-Saën’s “The carnaval of the animals”.
